Hampstead Pergola and Hill Gardens | Tube station: Hampstead

The pergola was built in 1906 and was one of Lord Leverhulmes ideas. He wanted to build a legacy, so decided that the pergola was a great idea. Over the years there were many extensions of this fantastic structure but sadly after his6 death the Pergola was forgotten. This place is now overgrown by wild flowers and vines and looks absolutely amazing. It has such a eerie feeling to it and I wouldn’t of thought this secret place would still exist in London.

I went to Hyde Park a couple of months ago and wondered why everyone was yelling about different issues, and then I found out that it’s a speaker’s corner. Every Sunday, people come here that want to voice an issue and debate with one another. It’s been happening every Sunday since 1866!


Postmans park |Tube station: St Pauls

This park is simply amazing. It was opened in 1880 and is dedicated to all the people who died while trying to save someone else’s life. You can read the plaques on the wall about how they died, and pay your respects. Spend a few moments remembering these amazing people who are no longer with us. They deserve remembrance. You can get here by taking the tube to St Pauls. It’s only a couple of minutes walking distance from the station. It’s a sanctuary amongst a concrete jungle.


Kyoto gardens at Holland Park | Tube station: Holland Park

If you fancy a peaceful afternoon then head to Holland Park where you can sit, relax and enjoy the Kyoto gardens. It’s only a short walk from the Holland Park tube station, you could definitely spend a sunny afternoon here!


Little Venice | Tube Station: Warwick Avenue

Little Venice is so dazzling! The bright colour of moss growing on the canal might not sound glamorous but it does look amazing. I suggest you start from Warwick Avenue tube station and walk along the canal until Paddington station. You will get to see some very quaint house boats and take some great pictures. It’s not quite Venice but thumbs up for trying!

Goodwins Court | Tube Station: Leicester Square

It is a little hard to find but it is the cutest, tiniest alleyway I have seen. It looks like a set out of Harry Potter with old school lanterns hanging all the way down. This alleyway is off St Martins Lane , make sure you look carefully because there is no sign saying the street name! It’s strangely quiet as well. My friend and I just sat there in silence and we couldn’t hear the chaos of London that surrounded us.

Yes, there are still free walking tours these days! I can recommend doing the Free London Walking Tours. There is more than one tour to choose from so make sure you check out their website.


Oldest street sign in London – Tavistock St | Tube station: Covent Garden

Tavistock Street has a hidden gem that not many people know about. It is home to the oldest recorded street sign in London dated back 1636! It’s very hard to find though so keep your eye out. It is located at the very top of the buildings numbered 34-38. You will see a blue plaque at number 36 saying ‘In 1821, Thomas de Quincy(1785-1859) wrote ‘Confessions of an English Opium Eater’. When you see this you’re not looking high enough! Stand on the other side of the road and you will see a white plaque. It’s very hard to see in direct sunlight and quite hard to get a photo of but mind-blowing when you see it and think about when this was dated back to.

Check out the Markets throughout London

London is famous for it’s bustling markets, there are so many to choose from. If you’re in London on a weekday then check out the Camden Markets, Covent Garden and Brixton Markets. On a Saturday check out the Borough Markets and Portobello Road Markets. On a Sunday you have to check out Upmarket and Bricklane markets in Shoreditch. They all cannot be missed!

See the view of the city at Primrose Hill | Tube Station: St John’s Wood

A great view of the beautiful city of London is Primrose Hill. Buy some food from the markets and come up here to enjoy the afternoon, eat and drink a bottle of wine! It’s not far from the London Zoo so if you are heading that way then make sure you stop over!



There are always free things to do in a city you just have to do a little research and be prepared to get lost. As my mother used to say “The best things in life are free” and I have to say I agree with her! Here’s 25 of the BEST things to do in London that you need to check out!

1. The Houses of Parliament are officially known as the Palace of Westminster and it is the largest palace in the country.

2. The Palace of Westminster has eight bars (where prices are kept cheap, thanks to the taxpayer), six restaurants, 1,000 rooms, 100 staircases, 11 courtyards, a hair salon, and rifle-shooting range.

3. It is illegal to die in the Palace of Westminster.

4. Many playwrights and poets are buried at Westminster Abbey. The tomb of Elizabethan poet Edmund Spenser is there and, according to historian Edward Camden, contains unpublished works by his admirers — possibly including Shakespeare — who threw poems into his grave as a tribute.

5. Big Ben is the bell, not the clock tower. Its chime is in the key of E.

6. Cock Lane, near Holborn Viaduct, didn't get its name due to any association with poultry, but because it was the only street to be licensed for prostitution in medieval times.

7. Unusual street names in London include Ha Ha Road in Greenwich, Hooker's Road in Walthamstow, Quaggy Walk in Blackheath, and Cyclops Mews and Uamvar Street in Limehouse.

8. The Beatles played their last gig on the roof of Apple Corps at 3 Saville Row. It's now an Abercrombie & Fitch store.

9. Jimi Hendrix lived at 23 Brook Street, which has been used as offices but is now being converted into a museum.

54. There is a memorial to a Nazi dog in London. You can see the grave of Giro, the German ambassador's dog, who was "accidentally electrocuted" in 1934 at the top of the steps by the Duke of York monument off Pall Mall, which is where the German Embassy stood until the breakout of World War II.

15 SECRET PLACES TO DISCOVER IN LONDON

As many of us know, London boasts some of the most popular attractions in the world and there’s certainly no shortage of things to see & do in the wonderful city. However today I wanted to share some places that are off the beaten path. Here’s 15 secret spots in London you might not know about!

1. STRAWBERRY HILL HOUSE

Strawberry Hill House — often called simply Strawberry Hill — is the Gothic Revival villa that was built in Twickenham by Horace Walpole from 1749. It is internationally famous as Britain’s finest example of Georgian Gothic revival architecture. Visiting is quite a theatrical experience with its renaissance glass, gloomy castle-like hall, and grey Gothic staircase leading to the magnificent gallery.

2. DENNIS SEVERS’ HOUSE

Dennis Severs’ House is a time capsule attraction in which visitors are immersed in a unique form of theatre. The ten rooms of this original Huguenot house have been decked out to recreate snapshots of life in Spitalfields between 1724 and 1914. You’re able to book a tour of the house that takes you through the entire house, and it feels as though the inhabitants had deserted the rooms only moments before.

3. BRITAIN’S SMALLEST POLICE STATION

In the southeast corner of Trafalgar Square, unnoticed by most visitors, is what many have called the world’s smallest police station. Made from a hollowed-out lamp post, it was installed in 1926 so policemen could keep a close eye on demonstrators at the popular protest site. Nowadays, it’s used for storage by the council.


4. WILTON’S MUSIC HALL

Experience the world’s oldest and last surviving grand music hall. Pretty amazing, if you ask me! It’s now used as a multi-arts performance space, there are guided tours offering a fascinating insight into the history and heritage of Wilton’s itself, music halls in general and London’s East End.


5. TEA ROOM AT THE V&A MUSEUM

Although the Victoria & Albert museum is quite well known, many people don’t know about their tea room. It’s decked out in incredible Victorian decor that makes it a museum all on it’s own. It’s also the first museum restaurant in the world! Sit back with an English tea after exploring the magical grounds.


6. POSTMAN’S PARK

Postman’s Park gained its name due to its popularity as a lunch spot with workers from the nearby old General Post Office. Now it’s home to the unique Watts memorial, a gallery of glazed tablets commemorating tragic acts of bravery.


7. ST DUNSTAN’S IN THE EAST

The Church of St Dunstan was originally built around 1100 but was severely damaged several times after, which left the City of London deciding to turn it into a public garden, which opened in 1970. You really will feel secluded in this gem of a City Garden.


8. ST. MARTIN’S WINDOW

The East window of St Martin’s church was designed by the Iranian artist Shirazeh Houshiary in collaboration with architect Pip Horne and was unveiled in 2008. The art piece was inspired by the way water reflects and changes images.


9. THE MAYOR OF SCAREDY CAT TOWN

If the name doesn’t entice you enough, perhaps the fact you enter through a fridge door from a restaurant might! Enjoy a cocktail in the tiny, dimly lit basement bar. It’s located beneath the Breakfast Club in Spitalfields and you can find out more here.


10. SECRET CINEMA

you buy a ticket, you don’t know what the film is, you just turn up where the organisers tell you. Previous locations include chapels, empty schools and underground tunnels! Find out more here.


11. UNDERGROUND TUBE BAR

Cahoots is a 1940s-underground-themed cocktail bar. The bar is inspired by the idea of an imagined tube station used as an air raid shelter finding new life in post-Blitz London. The owners even scoured the country to track down 1940-era train signs and decor. Oh and the cocktails are just splendid, too.


12. NEAL’S YARD

Tucked away between Covent Garden and the busy streets of Seven Dials, Neal’s Yard stays completely unnoticed if you don’t know it’s there. It’s the perfect place for lunch in the summer!


13. JOHN SNOW’S WATER PUMP

Almost directly behind Oxford street, on Broadwick street sits John Snow’s Water Pump. A cholera epidemic swept Soho in 1854, killing 500 people in a few months. John Snow figured out that the water pump was the source of the outbreak, so had the handle removed. The cases of cholera declined and the outbreak ended.

14. ISABELLA PLANTATION

Located in Richmond Park, this 40 acre woodland garden set within a Victorian woodland plantation planted in the 1830’s. First opened to the public in 1953, it is known for its large collections of Rhododendrons and Camellias and I can tell you, it is rather magical. It also gives you a lovely view of St Paul’s Cathedral.

15. SUNBORN YACHT HOTEL

Ever feel like staying in a luxury yacht but not at sea? Well, London has that covered. Sunborn Yacлht Hotel is a huge superyacht permanently moored in Royal Victoria Dock, near the O2, that’s been turned into a hotel – and there’s absolutely no movement. For reservations or more information, visit their website.

LONDON’S PRETTIEST MEWS STREETS

Wander around the streets of Kensington, Chelsea or Notting Hill and it won’t be long before you stumble across a mews street. You might not notice them at first – they’re often hidden away behind brick archways or ivy-covered entrance ways – but make the effort and you’ll discover some of the prettiest streets in London.

You’ll mostly find mews streets lying behind a row of grand townhouses. The little cottages along these streets used to be the stables for the townhouses back in the day, but nowadays they’ve been converted into multi-million pound properties that you’ll need a lottery win to afford (unless you’re Keira Knightley in Love Actually*).

Below are six of my favourite mews streets in London. Most of them are nice and close to each other in Kensington (Gloucester Road or Earl’s Court are the nearest tubes), so they make a really nice walk, particularly on a sunny day.

*If you want to see the mews where Keira’s character lived, it’s St Luke’s Mews in Notting Hill.



Kynance Mews

Kynance Mews London This is one of the mews you’ll see popping up all over the place on Instagram, thanks to the picture-perfect entrance and pastel-coloured cottages (plus the ivy-draped dream house in the photo above). It’s split into two sections – the shorter one to the west of Launceston Place and the longer one to the east.

Queen’s Gate Mews

This one is just down the road from Kynance Mews and has a lovely little pub at the end, The Queen’s Arms (although be wary if you’re after lunch – last time I was there, they didn’t have about half of what was on the menu). The street is covered in cobbles and the cottages are as cute as they come. Is Queen’s Gate prettier than Prince’s Gate? I’ll leave you to decide (more on Prince’s Gate Mews below).

Round the corner from the Natural History Museum, Atherstone Mews is one of the most colourful mews I’ve found, with houses decked out in pastel shades of blue, pink, purple and yellow.

Another colourful one, Prince’s Gate Mews lies behind the V&A and is split into three sections, so it lies partly in Kensington and partly in Westminster. While I wouldn’t say no to any of the houses here, I do have a bit of a soft spot for the blue-painted one (and it has a garage! If you’ve ever tried parking around this part of London, you’ll know how amazing this is).

Two minutes’ stroll from Prince’s Gate Mews is this lovely spot, all cobbles and tiny wrought-iron balconies. Once again, I think my fantasy house would have to be the blue cottage.

Spear Mews

Just off the chaos of Earl’s Court Road (about a minute’s walk from the station) is this little oasis of calm. The cobbles, the flowers, the gorgeous houses at the end of the street – it’s a beaut.

If it weren’t for the temperamental weather and lack of sun, I would probably find myself living in London (although, I love the city that much I’m still considering it). I’ve previously shared London’s top attractions, but there is much more to experience in the city than the tourist hot spots. Here’s 50 things to do in London!

1. VISIT BUCKINGHAM PALACE

…and be sure not to miss the changing of the guards! The event begins at 11:30 am, but to guarantee yourself a good view I’d recommend arriving at 11 am.

2. HAVE AN AFTERNOON TEA

Whether you want to experience a contemporary, sky high, traditional or glamorous afternoon tea, London has it all! If you need some recommendations, check out London’s 10 best afternoon teas.

3. WATCH A WEST END MUSICAL

London’s West End is second only in the world for theatre to Broadway in New York City. Find your new favourite West End musical; from heart-warming adaptations and award-winning scores, to hilarious musical theatre.

4. ENJOY A SUNDAY ROAST

It’s one of the most eaten-out meals in London with every pub and its neighbour claiming to do the best one.

5. TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AT DENNIS SEVERS’ HOUSE

The House is both a breathtaking and an intimate portrait of the lives of a family of Huguenot silk-weavers from 1724 to the dawn of the 20th Century. Well worth the visit!

6. EXPLORE NOTTING HILL

I absolutely adore Notting Hill. Although millions flock here every August for the Notting Hill Carnival, the cosmopolitan neighborhood captivates visitors with its unique charm all year round.

7. VISIT THE MARKETS

Buy a bouquet of flowers at Columbia Road flower market, brace yourself for crowds at Portebello Road market, eat all the food at Borough market and find a little bit of everything at Camden market.

8. EAT INDIAN FOOD ON BRICK LANE

London has the best curry outside of Asia and the top curry houses all reside in Brick Lane.

9. TOUR THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE

The Royal Opera House has secured its position as one of the world’s great opera houses following a turn-of-the-century refurbishment. Book in advance for a behind-the-scenes tour!

10. VISIT THE HARRY POTTER STUDIOS

Visitors can tour actual film sets and learn the special effects tricks used in the popular films.

11. DRINK UP ON A ROOFTOP BAR

If you didn’t know, London is quite famous for it’s rooftop bars. Popular ones include Roofnic, Culpeper Roof Garden, Radio rooftop bar, and Vista.

12. PICNIC IN HYDE PARK

If you’re lucky enough to be visiting the city on a warm, sunny day, grab some food and head to Hyde Park for a picnic. A great place to picnic is on the east side of the Serpentine Lake, which runs through the park. The park authorities have placed deck chairs that can be rented and it’s less crowded than the north, west and south sides.

13. VISIT THE BRITISH MUSEUM

Easily the best museum in London in my opinion and it’s FREE!

14. ADMIRE THE LIGHTS AT PICCADILLY CIRCUS

Piccadilly Circus is known for its big, spectacular LED outdoor advertising billboard screens on the north-western corner between Regent Street and Shaftesbury Avenue. With an appearance akin to a miniature Times Square in New York, this central London position reaches a worldwide stage as it is one of the most photographed sites in the world.

15. ENJOY A DRINK AT GORDON’S WINE BAR

Established in 1890, Gordon’s Wine Bar is possibly the oldest wine bar in London. Still family run, signs of the bar’s long history can be found everywhere, from the cellar and candlelit tables, to the aged wooden walls covered in memorabilia and old newspaper cuttings.

16. JUMP ON A DOUBLE DECKER BUS

A quintessential London experience, no? It’s also one of the best ways to get around the city and not miss seeing any of it along the way!

17. WINE AND DINE AT THE SHARD

London’s highest and best view is situated at the top of The Shard, on floors 68, 69 and 72. At almost twice the height of any other viewing platform in the capital, it offers visitors unparalleled 360-degree views for up to 40 miles.

18. VISIT COVENT GARDEN

Explore the old market, watch street performers, hear musicians. There’s plenty of free fun to be had in Covent Garden!

19. ICE SKATE AT SOMERSET HOUSE

During Winter, the grand courtyard at Somerset House provides this 900-metre-square ice rink with one of the most impressive skating backdrops in town. It’s London’s favourite outdoor ice rink!

20. DISCOVER THE CANALS OF MAIDA VALE (“LITTLE VENICE”)

Directly north of Paddington is the tranquil pocket affectionately known as Little Venice. The area is a popular tourist attraction mainly due to the picturesque canals with Narrowboat cruises.

21. VISIT PLATFORM 9¾

Station authorities have set up a fake entrance for Harry Potter fans at King’s Cross Station and it makes for some really fun photo opportunities.

22. HAVE BREAKFAST AT CEREAL KILLER CAFE

Cereal killer cafe is still one of the most unique cafes I’ve ever been to. They sell only cereal but have over 120 of imported choices from around the world, plus 30 varieties of milk, and extra toppings. Think Lucky charms and pop tarts! They even have a “Cereal Cocktail” selection, where each bowl is made of three to four different cereal flavours.

23. VISIT ABBEY ROAD

… and snap that iconic Beatles photo. Just beware of the traffic!

24. GO ON A PUB CRAWL

If you want to experience London after dark, pub crawls are a fantastic way to do so. Pub crawls in Shoreditch are my favourite, just be sure to start early as most pubs close rather early. Pounds, pints and plenty of good times!

25. WALK THE KINGS ROAD

Few streets have such mythical status as King’s Road. From being the place where all the 1960s cool cats hung out to the centre of the UK ‘76 punk explosion it was for many years the place to hangout and be seen. Every corner is incredibly rich with history.

26. CHECK OUT THE STREET ART IN SHOREDITCH

Experience street art and graffiti on a guided walking tour of Shoreditch London, alternative art by Banksy, Eine, Sweet Toof, Stik and many more.

27. VISIT SKY GARDEN

The Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street is a unique public space that spans three storeys and offers 360 degree uninterrupted views across the City of London. Visitors can wander around the exquisitely landscaped gardens, observation decks and an open air terrace of what is London’s highest public garden.

28. TOUR THE TOWER OF LONDON

Despite the Tower of London’s grim reputation as a place of torture and death, within these walls you will also discover the history of a royal palace, an armoury and a powerful fortress.

29. WATCH A FILM OUTDOORS

There’s many outdoor cinemas open during summer Rooftop Cinema that pops up in Shoreditch, Stratford and Peckham; Backyard Cinema in Camden and the Luna Cinema that projects its classic movies in various locations.

30. CATCH A GAME OF TENNIS AT WIMBLEDON

One of the world’s four annual Grand Slam tennis tournaments, Wimbledon is held in a southwest suburb of London over two weeks every summer. Players in pristine white, ball boys in purple and green, freshly cut grass, strawberries and cream and uppity sunburnt Brits.

31. EAT FISH AND CHIPS

When it comes to fish and chips, nobody does it better than the Brits. No trip to London would be complete without a trip to a proper chippy.

32. TOUR TATE MODERN

Great art, on the Thames, brilliant architecture and the bar gives an amazing view of the city especially at sunset.

33. CYCLE AROUND LONDON

That’s right, grab yourself a “Boris bike” and ride your way around the city and parks!


34. SHOP AT HARRODS

I mean I’d rather just move in but shopping there works too. The Egyptian room is really quite a dream.

35. WATCH THE SUNSET FROM PRIMROSE HILL

With its breathtaking views to the south of the city, Primrose Hill – up on the north side of Regent’s Park – is the ultimate London place to watch the sunset.

36. RETURN TO SHAKESPEARE’S LONDON AT THE GLOBE THEATRE

If you’ve ever watched Shakespeare in Love and wished to watch great plays such as Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet upon the same stage, then this is your chance.

37. TAKE A PHOTO IN A RED TELEPHONE BOX

I know, incredibly touristy, but you can’t go to London and not get that iconic photo!

38. HIGH STREET SHOPPING

London has some of the best (if not, THE best) shopping in the world. Be sure not to miss Oxford, Bond, Regent and Carnaby Streets. Because of their close proximity to each other, it means you can get them all done in a day (just remember to wear comfortable shoes).

39. PRIVATE TASTING CAPSULE ON THE LONDON EYE

While the London eye is a great way to see the city, many people complain it’s not worth the price and gets a little tedious. I would recommend booking a wine or champagne tasting experience on the London eye and you’ll get your own private capsule and take two full rotations.

40. CHRISTMAS MARKETS

If you’re visiting over Christmas, you MUST visit the Christmas markets. London is magical during the holidays.

41. VISIT WESTMINSTER ABBEY

Kings, queens, statesmen and soldiers; poets, priests, heroes and villains – Westminster Abbey is a must-see living record of British history.

The Golden Gallery is the gallery at the highest point of the outer dome, 280ft (85.4 metres) in St. Paul’s Cathedral. Visitors who climb the 528 steps to this gallery will be treated to panoramic views of London that take in the River Thames, Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.


43. GO FOR A STROLL IN REGENTS PARK

Although far less known than Green and Hyde Park, it is even more engaging. Surrounded by Palladian mansions and crescents, the layout is based on a series of concentric circles, and the flowerbed-lined lawns bisected by wide walkways for afternoon strolls.

45. HANG OUT IN HAMPSTEAD HEATH

Hampstead Heath is one of London’s best loved green spaces. It includes Parliament Hill, Golders Hill Park (with a zoo and butterfly house), an open air Lido (open 365 days a year), swimming ponds, splash pools, and countless sports pitches and facilities. There’s also many surrounding garden pubs to grab a drink and bite to eat. It’s the perfect escape from the bustling city.

46. VISIT WINTER GARDEN

Set at the heart of the soaring 8-storey glass roof atrium with magnificent palm trees and beautifully picturesque surroundings, the Winter Garden is a wonderful haven in which to enjoy excellent classic British cuisine, combining Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences to create unusual flavours.

47. WALK ALONG THE THAMES RIVER

Follow the greatest river in England for 184 miles from its source in the Cotswold hills to the sea. Passing through peaceful water meadows, unspoilt rural villages, historical towns and cities, and finally through the heart of London to end at the Thames Barrier in Greenwich. It’s one of the most glorious urban walks in the world.

48. CLIMB TOWER BRIDGE

The Tower Bridge dates back to 1894 and is one of the top attractions in the city. In 2014, a glass walkway was built to give visitors a unique view over the river and pedestrians below.


49. HAVE A DRINK AT THE SECRET UNDERGROUND TUBE BAR

Did you know there is a secret underground bar in London that contains an entire tube carriage? It’s called Cahoots and it’s a 1940s-underground-themed cocktail bar. The attention to detail is kind of insane.

50. TAKE A DAY TRIP

If you want to venture beyond the city for a day, there are many places you should consider including Windsor, Oxford, Stonehedge, Cambridge or Bath!
